Consider this reason #8,003 that I am sad I do not live in New York City.
It was just announced that my very favorite rocker Jon Bon Jovi will be playing a free concert in Central Park on July 12th. The Concert begins at 8 pm (grounds open at 2pm), and you can get your free ticket at Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium or KeySpan park starting tomorrow morning at 9am.
My co-worker brought in a pile of new magazines for people to read yesterday. Mostly they were your average Mom magazines…Martha Stewart, Real Simple and Oprah…but there was a new one in the pile called Dwell that I hadnt read before.
I took it home with me and read it cover to cover on the bike last night at the gym. It is a great magazine for someone like me. It speaks about Architecture, Design, Home Furnishings, Modern Technology and Sustainiblity. 🙂 Some of my favorite topics…
I was very interested in an article where two New Yorkers are campaigning to develop an unused section of elevated train track on the Upper West Side. The High Line would be used as a park and environmental respite for New Yorkers and Tourists. Read more about it at www.thehighline.org
One of my favorite things I found on their website were the photo montages of the site of the High Line. Like the one below.
Anyone know if New Amsterdam has gotten picked up for a second season? I am so curious to find out! Please let me know if you have any info!
5/15/08 Update: I just got an email from Thomas at Seat42f, unfortunately New Amsterdam was not picked up for a second season.

My friend CaJo and I went across town last night to hit up some of the stores that we typically never get to shop at. There are few things that Annie.in.MN loves more than New York City…and so when we came across this Manhattan tee from Sarah Jessica Parker’s Bitten clothing line….I had to have it! It has all the neighboorhoods written out in graphic text. Love it. Overall I wasn’t all that impressed with the Bitten line, but this was a fun find. Check out more stuff at the Bitten’s Website.
I consider it one of my civic duties(ok maybe not) to share with you my totally unnessesary television opinions. Well get ready, because here comes another one. Most of you know I really dont like tv (yeah right) and I barely have any shows I even like (umm more like 15 favorites) and of course its not like I needed another favorite show to add to my list…but here it is! New Amsterdam.
From now on John Amsterdam will be accompanying me during my exciting time on the treadmill or bike. Yes thats right, in a hope to control my tv viewing and also up my exercise time, I will now be watching tv while exercising. And New Amsterdam will be my gym show of choice. I have been downloading the episodes to my new and amazing ipod and only will be watching them in the gym. Thats some good incentive right?
Anyways, I am a bit of a latecomer to this new show. 5 episodes have aired and I am just getting started on it. So now is your chance. Go download the episodes or watch them online and join with me in discussion about this new show.
John Amsterdam is a homicide detective in New York City. But that’s not all, he is also immortal. He saved a young girl in 1642 and she made him immortal. He can not die until he meets his true love and they are united as one. Ok, so I know it sounds a little bit cheezy, but it comes off as interesting in the show. The homicides follow somewhat like any other cops/murder/csi type of show, but John seems to know extremely random things that apply to the case they are exploring. He is perplexing to his new partner Eva, who is still trying to figure him out. The only person who knows John’s secret is a bartender named Omar. When he is chasing a murder suspect on the subway, he falls to the ground with a heart attack. He is taken to the hospital and pronounced dead by the doctor. Later he awakens, and realizes that his brief encounter with death must mean that his true love was somewhere in the vicinity that day. Its a police/murder show with a love story. Great entertainment.
One of the things I find most interesting about the show is the time. They show bits and pieces of many different time periods, and John has always lived in New York City. This one moment really won me over, they show John standing in front of photographs of Times Square, taken every single year. Oh how I wish I could really see that happen!
It is a great touch to add to this great show. I also enjoyed the music that was used. Calming songs that were somewhat old fashioned during flashbacks and yet fit seamlessly into the present-day scenes. I am headed to the gym tomorrow night to watch episode two. I will let you know how my second New Amsterdam experience goes later…. But give this one a shot! 🙂
I notice apartments in movies. I always have. I love to see how they are decorated and how big or small they are. I just think they are really fun to see what the set designers/art directors can dream up for different locations. The pics below are from the movie Just My Luck starring Lindsay Lohan & Chris Pine. Really its a cheeseball girl movie, but it has a pretty darn cute teeny studio apartment in it. I just love it! Look how cute the little kitchen area is with its miniature avocado green fridge and the lofted sleeping area up top. This is the kind of cute place that I would love to live in when (or if) I ever get to NYC.
There are some other cute little decorating ideas as well. For example the tiny little cute table and two chairs. And the crates on the wall as shelving. To see more pictures click more. (more…)
Someday I would love to begin a post saying…
As a New York City resident…
but since I am not that lucky, I will start it like this…
As a “New-Yorker-at-heart” I think this is AWESOME!
From now through December New York’s MTA will be running vintage trains on the V line. The Transit museum owns many of these and they will be bringing them out so New Yorkers can take a trip down memory lane. I love it. I love the subway in general, even with all its dilemas it really is an awesome part of the city life in nyc. I also kinda want to check out this Transit Museum when I get back to NYC next. (Which hopefully will be in April! yay!)
Check out this link to see a picture of the vintage trains and read a first-hand account of the ride on the vintage trains.
Also, check out this awesome NYC subway map umbrella. Kinda just looks like they reshaped the NYC shower curtain that I looked at a while back. 🙂 haha.
